Desk Length or Full Length Armrests?

For standard wheelchairs, you can purchase them with what are called desk length armrests or full length armrests.  Full length armrests go from the back of the seat to the front with padding and desk length armrests have a drop in the middle into a right angle, which you can see in the diagram above.  The purpose of the desk length armrests is so the wheelchair can be pushed right up to a desk or table without being impeded by the frame of the wheelchair.  Anyone sitting in the wheelchair would not have to reach and stretch to get to anything on the table.  They also provide a small grab bar to help aid getting in and out of the chair.  Unless the user really needs support under their full arms, the desk length armrests are definitely the way to go.  My Recommendation:  Desk length arm rests.
